Be Our Guest

I realized today that I have only ever attended the weddings of family members. For the first time I am attending the wedding of a friend. Well, a friend of a friend. Really, he's a friend of my boyfriend. Really, I'm just a "plus one." Who cares? It's exciting to get dressed up, partake in the fun, and know that I'll be seated at an adult's table. Oh, and that this time I'm of legal drinking age.

My boyfriend has sat back, watched and laughed as I've turned this entire affair into a frenzy. While he simply books a bus ticket and borrows a tie from a friend, I run all over Manhattan searching for the perfect dress. You know how it goes, when you get a specific look in mind, and nothing else will do? You search from store to store, not finding a thing.

I had remembered a dress I saw on Chloe Sevigny that I adored. I knew it was wrong to get my heart set on something because I'd never find it. But I tried anyway.

Bottoms Up!

Oh the reception costs--the dinner, the bar--it can all go through the roof!

Here's a way to cut the cost without cramping the fun: a cocktail reception! By holding your wedding in the mid to late afternoon, you can have your reception in the early evening featuring a signature cocktail and passed hors d'oeuvres, therefore negating the need for a catered meal and fully stocked bar. Here are some great crowd pleasing cocktails to suit your wedding style.

Fortunately for them, bridal fashion is right there with them. Check out some of these gorgeous dresses from the Spring 2009 collections, via Brides.com!

Wedding Tradition Quiz

I noticed it has been a while since we have had a laugh at what the bigger bridal sites are selling us. Since we here at Vow.com are a peaceful folk and poke fun all in the name of good humor, I have decided to share with you my version of a real online wedding quiz designed to test how traditional you are. Let's see what happens when "who the quiz wants you to be" is quite untraditional …

Aloha!

If and when I ever get married, I'm going to Hawaii for my honeymoon. Why? For the stupidest reason of all: I feel like I'm supposed to. Indeed, it is a cliché, and I might have gotten over it years ago, had it not been for a Hallmark commercial from the '80s, of all things, that cemented this idea in my mind.

Runway to the Aisle

How is it possible that we have come so far on this wedding blog without showing some highlights from the bridal runways? If you've been reading for a while, you'll know I've visited the topic of trendy wedding dresses before. The thing about runway bridal fashion is that it can go either way: a bit crazy or supremely beautiful. A quick look to Brides.com and you can see every single bridal look on the runway. But if you don't have the time to look at over 900 dresses, take a sneak peek here at some of my personal favorites.
